I went for the stressful spooks and was not disappointed. I would never want to be in this family’s shoes. The cinematography was fantastic and there weren't too many unexpected jumpscares. You could see most of them coming a mile away. I love how realistic they played it with the nonbelievers. They would definitely think someone is insane if they saw some shadow demon thing. Everything about this is just right for a horror fan. It even had an open-for-interpretation ending which wasn’t unexpected. Gotta test the waters before you make a franchise. This is a well-balanced horror movie and I hope more horror films that take a serious approach do it like this movie. Less high brow and more just uneasiness. Use the environment, not the camera (unless you are Sam Raimi, he gets a pass). Definitely check this out if you are a horror fan.
