May the Fourth...A Star Wars Ramble 2023
Today is May 4th, also known as, Star Wars Day. I don't have any reviews for Star Wars coming anytime soon. I would love to sit and watch all the movies and even binge the shows. Star Wars has been a part of my life for a long time. I watched The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones in passing at sleepovers but my love of Star Wars began when Revenge of the Sith came out in 2005. For 18 years of my life, I have been enveloped by the magic of Star Wars. When The Force Awakens came out, I saw it 3 times on the opening day and I believe 6 times total (maybe 7). I have lightsabers and I've played several of the games from Battlefront to The Force Unleashed. At my first Comic Con, I met Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and it was a surreal experience. He was so kind and his hand ate my hand which was insane. Back when there were only 6 movies, I had marathons once every few months. I was definitely a nerdy indoor kid growing up because all I did was binge Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. I'm just cool like that I suppose. I say all this as a way to commemorate an important franchise in my life. I know to most people I'm the MCU nerd, but I'm really just a pop culture nerd. That is why I'm taking this journey of watching movies and reviewing them. Some movies I've seen dozens of times and some are my first time. The magic of movies is the stories and the characters. You are taken somewhere you have never been and experience things through a new lens. As cheesy as the AMC preroll is, it sums up the magic of the theatre and movies as a whole. Star Wars has been a part of pop culture for nearly 46 years. So many directors and writers and actors credit the original trilogy as their inspiration to be in the movie industry. Without George Lucas creating Star Wars, the Hollywood landscape would be very different. Star Wars projects have left some fans divided, but a true fan loves the films for being something larger than life. It is a universe that deserves to be explored and treated as a proper playground. As long as you have good vs evil with a lightsaber thrown in, you can't do worse than meh (despite what the crybabies say). I hope you use today to watch or play something Star Wars. May The Force Be With You...Always.
