The filmmakers understood the assignment. Obviously, Sam Raimi was probably a heavily involved producer, but this hit every mark you would expect from an Evil Dead film. It was a breath of fresh air to make the setting a terrible apartment rather than a cabin, even though it starts at a lakehouse cabin. The movie also did a nice full circle with how it got to the opening scene. The characters all felt unique and like real people with mundane lives. The traditions were all here: shotguns, chainsaws, gallons of blood, the POV track camera, and the Book of the Dead. I do wish this was a little scarier though. It grossed me out plenty, but I wasn’t scared all that much. It was a well-made Evil Dead movie though. I just wish people in these movies would stop seeing creepy things and mess with it rather than leaving it alone. I guess then we wouldn’t have a movie. I just hate how dumb these people are sometimes. I definitely recommend you see this in theatres. Just try not to be next to people who make comments anytime something happens.
